Wayman Adams

(1883-1959)

 

The first of many top awards Adams received was the Thomas R. Proctor prize at the National Academy of Design, New York, 1914. The canvas was of Alexander Ernestinoff. Established as one of the leading portrait painters in America, Adams moved to New York City where he painted world celebrities including Presidents Harding, Coolidge and Hoover, Otis Skinner, the actor, Theodore Dreiser, Walter Damrosch, Irvin S. Cobb, Alice Longworth Roosevelt to name a few.
