Hold Onto Each Other - Heiko Weiner
By Heiko Weiner
16" x 10" | Segmented wood vessel with turquoise inlay; Honey locus, Canadian maple, ebony
Heiko Weiner made this vase during challenging times he experienced in Texas, the spring of 2021. It was slow going with the record cold and power outages, but also allowed time for reflection. Originally, he pictured a more open pattern, but in the process, he changed the design to the current, more interwoven one. He recalls “I thought it to be quite fitting for the occasion, and a time to remember to hold on to the things close to us.” The main body of the piece is made from padauk (a red, African hardwood), wenge, and honey locus woods. The piece includes turquoise accents. The center pattern represents a continuous, interlinked chain of red and dark wood, centered around turquoise squares. Approximately 16 inches tall, and 10 inches in diameter, this vase is colorful, decorative, and modern in style.
