JOE RUSSELL

Joe G. Russell (1926-2008) was a Texas artist known for his vivid oil paintings, particularly of Western scenes and landscapes. Born in Austin, he began drawing at a young age, influenced by his family's deep roots in Texas and his early exposure to the ranching lifestyle. Russell pursued art seriously after initially studying agriculture, leading to a successful career in commercial art and later as a full-time painter. His works capture the essence of Texas's natural beauty and rural life, and he was active in the art communities of Houston and Austin before settling in Kerrville to focus solely on his painting.
